The method involves connecting a high-to-low-pressure region with a pressure relief valve (29) when pressure in the high-pressure region exceeds a threshold value. Opening state of the pressure relief valve is detected based on rotation speed of a combustion engine (30). The pressure limiting valve is closed when the rotation speed of the combustion engine is increased. The pressure relief valve is closed when an output of a control unit is closed. The pressure limiting valve is closed when an input signal of an actuator is dropped. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for monitoring an injection system of a combustion engine (2) an electronic memory medium having a set of instructions to perform a method for monitoring an injection system of a combustion engine.
