The marine current power plant has a tubular body (2) for installation near a river bank (4), where the tubular body has a venturi section (2.1), upper open end (2.2) and a lower open end (2.3). A turbine (3) is placed in the venturi section, and is in driving connection with a generator. The upper- and lower open ends are on different geodetic heights. The turbine is provided as an axial turbine or a semiaxial turbine, particularly a Kaplan turbine. The turbine blades are self-adjusting depending on the mass flow. The tubular body has U-shape and is arranged in a vertical plane.
