PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To creatively propose a glass substrate capable of simultaneously meeting thickness reduction and strength upgrade demands of an organic electroluminescent (EL) device without raising the manufacturing cost thereof.SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of the glass substrate 5 for organic EL applications, a glass raw ingredient mixed so as to realize a glass composition including 40-80% of SiO, 1-25% of AlO, and 0.5-20% of NaO in terms of the mass% profile of the glass composition is melted, molded in the shape of a plate, and chemically strengthened by means of an ion-exchanging treatment for forming a compressive stress layer on the glass surface. In the provided glass substrate for organic EL applications, the compressive stress layer in question has a compressive stress of 100 MPa or above, a stress thickness of 10 μm or above, and an internal tensile stress of 200 MPa or below, whereas an alkali barrier layer is formed on at least one surface of the glass substrate, and the thickness of the alkali barrier layer is 10-1000 nm. |
