PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable highly accurate detection of a necrotic cell region.SOLUTION: A device for detecting a necrotic cell region includes: image acquisition means which acquires a cell image group comprising a plurality of cell images acquired by imaging living cells that change with time at a plurality of times; region dividing means which divides a cell image acquired at a prescribed time in the cell image group into a plurality of regions so that they have uniform local image quality characteristics; band dividing means which decomposes the cell image acquired at the prescribed time into a plurality of band images including a low frequency image comprising low frequency components and a high frequency image comprising high frequency components; feature quantity calculation means which calculates a texture feature quantity from the high frequency image for each region; brightness calculation means which calculates a brightness average value from the low frequency image for each region; and determination means which determines whether the region is formed of necrotic cells or not on the basis of the texture feature quantity and the brightness average value.
