The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for supplying components to distributed component users, which allows an out sourcing of procurement services and furthermore allows to perform procurement services by operating a procurement portal. Therefore, compound component specifications are created as a function of single component specifications and furthermore products being offered by component suppliers are selected on basis of the compound component specification. The present invention finds application in a variety of application domains, such as supplying of components to manufacturing plants, component ordering and performing procurement services.
