<p>Polymer composns. for melt coatings and adhesives Composns. are produced at atmos. pressure by passing a monomer (A) into a hydrocarbon (B) contg. at least one tertiary C atom, at a temp. at which (B) and the homogeneous polymeric product are liquid. (A) is pref. a vinyl ester of a fatty acid with up to 12C atoms (esp. vinyl acetate), styrene, vinyl toluene, vinyl or vinylidene chloride, crotonic, acrylic or itaconic acid, or maleic anhydride. (B) pref. has a mol. wt. above 200 (esp. over 400) and is a micro-crystalline or ozocerite wax, atactic polypropylene, a butadiene, isobutylene or butene polymer, or a wool wax alcohol. (B) is pref. liquid at below 150 degrees C (esp. below 100 degrees C). The ratio of (B) to (A) is pref. from 10:1 to 1:10 (esp. from 10:3 to 1:3). Peroxide or redox initiator systems are pref. used.</p> |
