A method for recognizing a gesture according to the present invention relates to a method for recognizing a user's hand gesture with a system for recognizing a gesture. The method for recognizing a gesture includes a step of photographing an image of a user's hands; a step of generating a template image matched which is symmetrical to the initially photographed hand image; a step of comparing and matching the hand image photographed in all of the frame in the photographing step and the template image; and a step of recognizing a hand gesture motion by matching the hand image and the template image.
