A door closer comprising a housing 2 fitted in a door; a tension member 14 extending from within the housing through an opening and fitted to a door frame; a movable body within the housing, connected to the tension member and biased away from the frame by a spring 4 so as to urge the door to close. A hydraulic damper is located in the housing and has a piston 100 coupled to the housing and is slidable in a first fluid-filled chamber within the movable body, the piston comprises a valve mechanism which permits relatively free movement only in one direction. There is a second fluid filled chamber in communication with the first via separated fluid ports so as to define a hydraulic loop. An accumulator 176 has a compressible foam body disposed in the first fluid-filled chamber adjacent to the hydraulic loop. The accumulator may be fixed in its location by being situated in a region with a larger diameter and may be held there by a washer (Fig 6). Also described is the valve mechanism in the piston (Fig 3-6) and a separation element which prevents the accumulator and the piston from contacting. |
