PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer detergent builder suppressing the precipitation of a surfactant even in washing with highly hard water. SOLUTION: A polymer composition is provided which is obtained by polymerizing a polyoxyalkylene-based compound and an acid group-containing unsaturated monomer in the presence of a polymerization initiator, wherein the polyoxyalkylene-based compound has at least one of an≥8C aryl group, an≥8C alkyl group and an≥8C alkenyl group and oxyalkylene groups, a content of a structure derived from the oxyalkylene groups per 1 mole of the polyoxyalkylene-based compound is 10-50 moles, and a mass ratio between a structure derived from the polyoxyalkylene-based compound and a structure derived from the acid group-containing unsaturated monomer is 95:5 to 80:20. The polymer composition contains at least one selected from benzoic acid, butyl 3,3-dihydroxyvalerate and isopropyl alcohol in an amount of 0.5-20 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the acid group-containing unsaturated monomer.
