<p>The applicator (11) has an application element (17) i.e. bristle bundle, provided at a tubular holder (12). A movably protective sleeve (14) is mounted at the holder and arranged in a non-application position (16) surrounding the application element and in an application position for releasing the application element. An edge-opened recess is provided adjacent to a front-sided end of the sleeve, so that the application element is inserted into the sleeve over the recess for positioning the sleeve on the holder.
