An apparatus for detecting displacement and a method thereof are disclosed. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the apparatus for detecting displacement comprises: a receiving unit which receives multiple receiving signals subordinate to the displacement of a coupler element; an obtaining unit which obtains the information on the displacement of the coupler element and the information on a gap between the coupler element and a transmitting coil or between multiple receiving coils, using the received multiple receiving signals; and a compensating unit which compensates for the obtained displacement information using the obtained information on the gap. The obtaining unit obtains the information on the displacement of the coupler element using one of the multiple receiving signals, and obtains a compensating signal independent from the displacement of the coupler element including the gap information using the remaining receiving signals. Therefore, the obtaining unit can obtain displacement information where errors according to the gap have been compensated in a processor or a module for performing signal processing, and can improve accuracy in detecting the displacement of a component detected by a displacement sensor.
