1,260,320. Bituminous composition. BITUMARIN N.V. 15 Dec., 1969 [16 Dec., 1968], No. 61029/69. Heading C3N. A bituminous composition for hydraulic engineering applications comprises a mix of a bituminous mortar and a stone fraction, the smallest size D15 of the stone in the stone fraction, expressed in equivalent diameters, having 4-16 times the largest size D85 of the mineral matter of the mortar, the quantity of mortar in the mix being 10-30% by weight. By " the smallest size D15 " is meant the sieve mesh through which 15% by weight of the stone fraction passes whilst by " the largest size D85 " is meant the sieve mesh through which 85% by weight of the minerals passes. - The bitumen employed is preferably an unblown petroleum bitumen which may be fluxed. In examples a bituminous mortar comprising bitumen, sand having a largest D85 of 2À0 mm. and limestone filler, which has a particle size smaller than that of sand is admixed respectively with (a) 25-55 mm. stone fraction having a smallest size D15 of 30 mm. heated to 120‹ C.; (b) 30-60 mm. gravel having a smallest size D15 of 32 mm. heated to 90‹ C.; and (c) 30- 100 mm. gravel having a smallest size D15 of 32 mm. at 30‹ C.
|
