An engine operating mechanism according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a fly wheel disposed at one side of a crank shaft and provided with a wheel gear on the outer peripheral surface of the fly wheel; a balance gear externally contacting one side of the wheel gear of the fly wheel to be rotated with the fly wheel; a balance shaft fixed to the center of rotation of the balance gear to be rotated with the balance gear; a balance weight of which the center of gravity is eccentric for the center of rotation of the balance shaft; a motor gear disposed to externally contact the other side of the wheel gear of the fly wheel to rotate the fly wheel; and a start motor disposed to rotate the motor gear. Thus, the balance gear rotating the balance shaft can be directly to the fly wheel, thereby reducing weight and cost of production. In addition, friction loss, which may occur through chains or intermediate gears, can be removed, and the balance shaft can be rotated by the rotational inertia force of the fly wheel, thereby reducing fuel consumption. |
