<p>A floor tool (8, Fig 2) suitable for a vacuum cleaning appliance (2, Fig 1) with a suction nozzle assembly (26) comprising a support member (28) with a carrier plate and a floor engaging pad. At least one suction nozzle (30, 32) is in fluid communication with a conduit and air manifold (34) on the upper surface of support member (28). The nozzle has a surface engaging skirt 120 of each suction chamber 126, 128, downwardly positioned so as to define an outer periphery of a suction chamber with a chamber outlet. The surface engaging skirt 120 has a leading edge 132, a trailing edge 130 and side edges extending therebetween; with trailing edge 130 facing downwards from the suction nozzle by a distance X, the leading edge 130 likewise facing downwards from the suction nozzle by a distance < X. There is thereby defined a predetermined gap with the floor surface S (1 to 4 mm) during use.</p> |
