An image of an object is captured using patterned light and a region of said image is defined specified, possibly based on luminance values, the shape of the target object, the orientation of the target object or the shape of the patterned light. Geometric features in the image are searched for from a region other than the defined region and these are compared with a stored model. The position and orientation of the target object are derived based on the searched geometric features of the target object and geometric features of a model of the target object. The defined region may be enlarged during the search and may be used to generate a light mask. |
