Apparatus for cutting envelope blanks 12 from a web 10 comprises a roller 14 having blades e.g. 25, 31 on its curved surface for cutting " chips " from the web and conduit means connecting the areas defined by these blades with a source of vacuum 40 through valves 60, 62 for part of the rotation of the roller 14, to remove these " chips " from the blank. The conduits extend from the ends 50, 52 of the roller 14 axially of the roller, then radially to the areas defined by the blades for cutting notches 24, 26, 28 and apertures 3, 30 in the web. Valves 60, 62 are identical and comprise an arcuate slot 74 for connecting the conduits with the vacuum source 40 to lift the " chips " from the blank and an orifice 72 for connecting the conduits with a pressure source 42 for blowing the " chips " clear of the blades when the blades are aligned with hoods 44, 46, 48 which are permanently connected to the vacuum source 40. |
