<p>A rolling bearing, used e.g. in railway rolling stock has rolling elements between races in which (a) the races and rolling elements have a uniform chemical composition of steel with a carbon content of 0.8-1.2% (b) the rolling surfaces of the races and rolling elements have a hardened layer with a hardness of 58-65 Rc, (c) in each race the thickness of the hardened layer is 0.1-0.3 of the wall thickness (d) each race and rolling element has a core hardened to 30-45 Rc; and (e) in each race Dcr = (0.7 to 1.4)S (in which dcr is the critical dia. of the steel and S the wall thickness of the race). Pref. elements are of steel contg. (in wt.%) 0.9-1.1 C 0.3-0.5 Cr, 0.1-0.3 Si and 0.1-0.3 Mn, or 0.4-0.6 Cr and is not 1 Si.</p> |
