A battery module according to the present invention comprises: a plurality of unit cells which have a pair of electrode leads and are electrically connected; an external cover for containing the unit cells; and at least one airbag which is interposed in at least one between the neighboring unit cells in the unit cells and between the unit cells and the external cover, contains gas in the internal space and has a gas discharge unit for discharging gas in the internal space to the outside in proportion to the applied pressure. The present invention is able to alleviate pressure or impact applied from the outside, prevent increase of internal pressure in a battery module by securing space for expansion of a cell in a swelling phenomenon and secure stability for use of a secondary battery by blocking a current flowing the battery module when the internal pressure due to the swelling phenomenon reaches an uppermost limit. |
