[Also in Division A4] A computor operated supermarket (Division A4) has racks, trays, refrigerator shelves &c. supported on strain gauges which produce signals corresponding to articles removed therefrom by a customer, the signals indicating that one or more standard weight articles has been removed or that a weight of non-standard weight article (e.g. meat costed by the 1b.) has been removed. The racks &c. may indicate an increase in weight, e.g. when deposit returnable articles are placed thereon and each rack is associated with a card reader whose signals are transmitted to the computor which prints an invoice showing the cost of articles removed in association with eachcustomer's card. In Fig.4, a shelf 60 is supported at its four corners by cantilevers 67 resting on domes 69, each cantilever having a strain gauge 70 whose outputs are fed via a bridge circuit to the computor. The domes 69 may be replaced by pin located rockable knife edges 77 and the shelves have side edges 61 which abut the base 58 to prevent overloading of the cantilevers and strain gauges. Fig. 10 shows refrigerator shelves 107 supported by cantilevers 110 and strain gauges 112. Embodiments are described showing bottle racks and cantilevered supports upon which articles for sale may be hung.</p> |
