A process for the preparation of compound 1,1-diethylcarboxy-2-methoxy-2-trifluoromethylethylene with potential physiological properties by acylating diethyl malonate with trifluoroacetic anhydride (or with trifluoroacetic acid) in the presence of sodium methylate followed by treatment of the reaction first stage product with phosphorus pentachloride in dichloroethane, and then with methanol with reaction mixture heating.
