1,267,469. Coated flexible sheet material. ORCHARD CORP OF AMERICA. 2 Dec., 1970 [3 June, 1970], No. 57197/70. Heading B2E. A laminable film comprises a transparent polyvinyl chloride film having a decorative coating on one surface with an opaque ground coat that is heat-sealable at 150-300‹F. applied to the decorative coating and comprising a polymeric resin having a molecular affinity for polyvinyl chloride, a plasticizer and a pigment. The coating may be applied as an aqueous emulsion which may be anionic or non-ionic and contain about 50% solids before incorporation of the pigment and the plasticizer. The resin emulsion to pigment ratio may be of the order of 5:1 to 6:1. The resin may be polyvinyl chloride, vinyl chloride/acrylic copolymers, polyvinyl acetate or an acrylic copolymer. Suitable pigments are carbon black, clay, copper phthalocyanine, titanium dioxide, zinc sulphide, iron oxide, molybdate orange and calcium carbonate and mixtures of these. Plasticizers specified are esters of phthalic acid such as dioctylphthalate, diphenylphthalate and dicyclohexylphthalate, and waxes and solid plasticizers such as salts of stearic acid such as zinc stearate, magnesium stearate and aluminium stearate. |
