1,267,839. Plate heat exchangers. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP. 26 June, 1969 [12 Aug., 1968], No. 32261/69. Heading F4S. In a heat exchanger core comprising a plate stack with corrugated plate fins 18, 19 disposed between adjacent plates, primary fluid flows through alternate passages of the core (shown in Fig. 4) in a direction opposite to that of a secondary fluid flowing in the intermediate passages (shown in Fig. 2), the headers conducting the secondary fluid to and from said intermediate passages comprising triangular plates 34, 40, 50, 52 coextensive with the heat exchange plates and preferably integral therewith and straight fins 36 (of unspecified form) being provided in these headers to act, with other fins 37 in the primary fluid path, Fig. 4, as structural support and to guide the secondary fluid as it flows from inlet and outlet manifolds 38, 42 into and out of the core. The primary fluid manifolds (not indicated) are attached to flanged open ends of a box 10 in which the core is mounted. Closure bars e.g. 24, 25, 44, 46 (and 28, 30, Fig. 3) are mounted between adjacent plates of the core in appropriate positions to define the fluid passages therein. In the arrangement shown, two secondary fluid streams flow through the core and are kept separate from each other by other closure bars 32 mounted in the secondary fluid passages.
