Provided according to an embodiment of the present invention is an energy storage system comprising: an energy storage apparatus for storing energy; an EMS link control apparatus for receiving control information from an energy management system and controlling the energy storage apparatus according to the received control information; an autonomous control apparatus for, in case that energy usage of a load corresponds to a predefined abrupt load usage state, controlling the energy storage apparatus to automatically supply the energy from the energy storage apparatus to the load; and an information transmitting apparatus for transmitting information on the automatically supplied energy to the energy management system. The present invention controls the energy storage apparatus to immediately cope with peak power generation, thereby reducing the peak power generated in the load.
