A laundry treatment apparatus according to the present invention comprises: a casing; an external container supported within the casing; an internal container rotatably arranged within the external container; a cylinder having one end connected to the casing and the other end connected to the external container and including a shock absorbing device for absorbing vibration of the external container caused by rotation of the internal container. The shock absorbing device includes: the shock absorbing device connected to one between the casing and the external container; a piston connected to one between the casing and the external container for moving relatively to the cylinder according to motion of the external container; a friction member arranged to form a friction force with the piston; a friction member holder moving in one body with the friction member; and a holder operating part for making the friction member in contact with the piston by pressing the friction member holder at a first operation position and for releasing a pressure applied to the friction member holder at a second operation position to separate the friction member from the piston.
