According to embodiments of the present invention, an optical light source is provided. The optical light source includes at least two reflectors arranged spaced apart from each other, the at least two reflectors defining an optical cavity therebetween, wherein at least one reflector of the at least two reflectors includes an optical tuning element, and an optical gain medium positioned in the optical cavity and in an optical path between the at least two reflectors, wherein the optical tuning element is configured to allow tuning of light propagating in the optical cavity between the at least two reflectors and the optical gain medium in response to an applied voltage to the optical tuning element. According to further embodiments of the present invention, an optical transmitter is also provided.
