Provided is an actuator capable of achieving a significant displacement with a low voltage. This actuator is equipped with a first deformable material layer, a second first deformable material layer, and an intermediate layer that is provided between the first deformable material layer and the second deformable material layer. The first deformable material layer includes a first deformable material containing: a first stimuli-responsive compound that changes color as the molecular structure thereof changes due to a redox reaction; a first polymer material; a light-transmissive first electron-conductive substance; and a first electrolyte. The second deformable material layer includes a second deformable material containing; a second stimuli-responsive compound that changes color as the molecular structure thereof changes due to a redox reaction; a second polymer material; a light-transmissive second electron-conductive substance; and a second electrolyte. The intermediate layer prevents migration of electrons between the first deformable material layer and the second deformable material layer. |
