摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent frequent print quality defects caused, when a media substrate travels through a print zone, by interaction between ink ejection and a high electric field that results from the electrostatic tacking.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a system for reducing electrostatic fields underneath print heads in a direct marking printing system. The system includes: one or more print heads 28 for depositing ink onto a media substrate; a media transport for moving the media substrate 12 along a media path passing by the one or more print heads 28; a conductive platen 30 contacting a media transport belt 14; and an electrostatic field reducer 24 that includes an alternating current corona device positioned upstream of the one or more print heads 28. The media transport includes the media transport belt 14 and, when the media substrate 12 is on the media transport belt 14, the media substrate 12 has an electrostatic field, which can cause printing defects. The electrostatic field reducer 24 reduces the electrostatic field on the surface of the media substrate 12 and thereby reduces printing defects.
