PURPOSE: A manufacturing method of tetrachloride zirconium using silicon tetrachloride is provided to increase the productivity of zirconium tetrachloride with little amount of carbon by re-chloridizing zircon sand using plenty of silicon tetrachloride generated from a zircon chloridation process. CONSTITUTION: A manufacturing method of tetrachloride zirconium includes the steps of: obtaining a gaseous reaction product by generating a reaction between solid zircon sand, solid carbon, and chlorine gas based on equation 1, ZrSiO4 + 4C + 4Cl2 = ZrCl4 + SiCl4 + 4CO; and obtaining gaseous zirconium tetrachloride by generating a reaction between the gaseous reaction product and silicon tetrachloride based on equation 2, ZrSiO4 + SiCl4 = ZrCl4 + 2SiO2. The method further includes a step of cooling/coagulating zirconium tetrachloride based on the gaseous reaction product obtained from the reactions based on the equations.
