<p>Living cells of a microorganism in a test sample are distinguished from dead cells or damaged cells and detected by the following steps: a) a step in which a platinum complex is added to the test sample; b) a step in which a target domain of the DNA or RNA of the microorganism in the test sample is amplified by a nucleic acid amplification technique; and c) a step in which the amplification product is analysed.</p>
