An apparatus and method for controlling display of a status bar according to the present invention are provided to partially expand the status bar of a graphic user interface (GUI) efficiently, for example, in various types of electronic devices such as a set-top box or a smartphone and more specifically, to partially expand a partial section before and after a cursor's position displayed on the status bar or a position touched by the user and continuously displays the partially expanded partial section without disconnecting and overlapping with the status bar, thereby enabling the user to specify a desired position in more details and additionally allow the partially expanded partial section not to be overlapped with another section, thereby enabling the user to readily select and specify a remaining another section with the status bar partially expanded and to continuously display the partially expanded partial section without disconnecting with the status bar, thereby efficiently preventing a video display area from being covered with a plurality of status bars individually displayed on a video screen.
