PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately synchronize moving speeds of both belts provided in each of belt conveyors when a glass plate is transported by the belt conveyors which are opposed each other holding the glass from one side and the other side.SOLUTION: A transport device 1 for a glass plate includes belt conveyors 2a and 2b which are opposed each other and transport a glass plate G by holding it from one side and the other side. Each of the belt conveyors 2a and 2b includes: an endless belt 5; a drive pulley 3 and a driven pulley 4 which the belt 5 is wound around; and a drive motor M which drives the drive pulley 3 to rotate. The transport device 1 controls a rotational speed of a drive motor M1 in the belt conveyor 2a on one side to be constant, and detects torque of the drive motor M1 and controls torque of a drive motor M2 in the belt conveyor 2b on the other side based on the detected torque.
