This wavelength conversion particle (7) is provided with: a fluorescent particle (71) having an average particle size of 1-50 mum; and a plurality of second particles (72) provided to the surface of the fluorescent particle, having a smaller average particle size than that of the fluorescent particle, and furthermore having an average particle size of 40-1000 nm. Also, the wavelength conversion particle is provided with a plurality of third particles (73) provided to the gaps between the fluorescent particle and the second particles, having a smaller average particle size than that of the second particles, and furthermore having an average particle size of 1-100 nm. As a result, a wavelength conversion particle is obtained that can further increase the efficiency of extraction of light radiated from the fluorescent particle and the entry efficiency of light to the fluorescent particle. |
