PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tension detector for a knitting yarn capable of stopping a flat-knitting machine when it becomes impossible to newly supply a knitting yarn, which is prevented from yarn breakage, to a knitting needle.SOLUTION: There is provided a tension detector 2 for detecting a variation in tensile strength of a knitting yarn 3 on a supply path 30 of a flat-knitting machine for supplying a knitting yarn 3 from a yarn package to a knitting needle. The tension detector 2 is provided with a second yarn guide 32 at the tip of an extended plate 23 for extending the supply path 30 toward the outside of the path, for swinging the knitting yarn 3 between a guide position for guiding the knitting yarn 3 on the supply path 30 and a detaching position for detaching the knitting yarn 3 so that it cannot be guided. A microswitch 43 is turned ON, when a high strength knitting yarn is applied to prevent a yarn breakage on the supply path 30 and the second yarn guide 32 is swung from the guide position to the detaching position due to the tension of the knitting yarn 3, to detect a rapid variation in tensile strength of the knitting yarn 3 and output a signal for stopping a driving mechanism of the flat-knitting machine. The knitting yarn detached from the tip of the extended plate is left on the supply path 30 as a knitting yarn newly supplied to the knitting needle. |
