PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element with an excellent display quality by using a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition capable of exhibiting impact resistance.SOLUTION: The provided liquid crystal display element 1 comprises: a first oriented substrate 11a comprising a first electrode layer 3a formed atop a first substrate 2a and a rubbed first oriented film 4a formed atop the first electrode layer; a second oriented substrate 11b comprising a second electrode layer 3b formed atop a second substrate 2b and a rubbed second oriented film 4b formed atop the second electrode layer; and a liquid crystal layer 5 including a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition and formed between the first oriented film and the second oriented film; the first oriented film and the second oriented film are arrayed in a state where the respective rubbing directions D1 and D2 thereof are parallel, and the ferroelectric liquid crystal composition includes a chiral compound having a specific molecule structure. |
