The objective of the present invention is to provide: an azo compound having superior solubility in a solvent and having a high light absorption coefficient; and an ink containing the compound. The ink contains: a solvent having a relative permittivity at 22°C at a measurement frequency of 1 kHz of no greater than 3 and a solubility in water at 25°C of no greater than 20 mg/L; and an azo compound represented by general formula (1). (In general formula (1), R1 and R2 each independently indicate an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, and X1, X11, and A1 each independently indicate a hydrogen atom or an arbitrary substituent group.)
