The measurement device for executing this sheet tobacco weight measurement method comprises a light source (28) for irradiating light on sheet tobacco (ST) that passes through the measurement position (P) of a transport path (18), and a visual sensor (30). The visual sensor (30) comprises: a color camera (32) disposed with respect to the light source (28) so that the transport path (18) is interposed therebetween; a processing unit (40) for transforming the color image of the sheet tobacco (ST) taken by the camera (32) into a grayscale image; and a conversion unit (42) for converting the mean intensity of the grayscale image to a weight for the sheet tobacco by comparison with a conversion map. The conversion map represents the relationship between the mean intensity of the grayscale image and the actual weight of the sheet tobacco (ST).
