A plastics carrier bag 23 comprises front and back walls connected around their edges up to the mouth of the bag, each wall being extended beyond the mouth, the extensions being thicker than the walls, with free side edges 11 and hard holes 12. A forwardly moving tube 13, integral, folded or formed by two webs, is given edge gussets 14, one of which is slit by knife 15 to form a double thickness around the mouth edge. For neatness, V-cuts 11 and hard holes 12 are formed and, with interration of non-sealing laquer or plates, the double thickness is sealed together at the V-cuts around the hand hole and possibly along the junction of extension and bag wall, a blade 16 separating the opposed extensions. V-cuts 6 are formed in the bottom pleat and heat sealed, the pleat folds being separated shoe 17 and wire 18 adjustably tensioned between supports 19, 20. The bags are separated by transverse sealing cuts 22. The bags may have straight edges and be without pleats, and the extensions be integrally thicker plastics. A reinforcing seal may be given to the top of the side edges. |
