PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To equalize film thicknesses of organic EL thin films among effective optical area pixels and in respective pixels in manufacturing of an organic EL device in which an organic EL material is discharged onto a substrate by an ink jet system and is applied thereto and organic EL layers are formed.SOLUTION: A manufacturing method for an organic electroluminescent device using an organic electroluminescent device substrate in which a plurality of organic electroluminescent device formation areas including effective optical areas related to display where a plurality of display pixels is disposed and a first dummy area not related to the display has a plurality of effective optical area groups includes the steps of: forming a second dummy area around the plurality of effective optical area groups so as to surround the plurality of organic electroluminescent device formation areas; and forming compositions containing an organic electroluminescent material on the first dummy area, the second dummy area and the plurality of display pixels.
