Provided are an apparatus for driving an electric parking brake and a driving method thereof, wherein the apparatus comprises: a control unit which controls an accelerator pedal unit to drive an accelerator pedal to start a car which is parked on a hill and a brake pedal unit to drive a brake pedal and includes a reference hill slope range and a reference range of car stopping; a hill slope determination unit which determines whether the current state of a hill slope where the car rolls back through an operation of at least one among the accelerator and the brake pedal pressed is within the reference hill slope range according to a control of the control unit; a car stopping determination unit to determine if the current car-stopping state where the car is stopped on a hill through an operation of at least one among the accelerator and the brake pedal pressed is within the reference range of car stopping, if the current state of the hill slope which is determined by the hill slope determination unit is within the reference hill slope range; and an MOC driving unit which drives a motor on caliper (MOC) parking brake driving unit to drive an MOC parking brake under control of the control unit to prevent the car from rolling back in the hill, if the current car-stopping state which is determined by the car-stopping determination unit is within the reference car-stopping range.
