The dowel (1) has a sleeve-shaped shaft (2) extending along a longitudinal axis (L) and comprising a screwing channel for receiving a pin-like expanding element e.g. nail. The shaft comprises a receiving opening in which a spacer segment (6a) is arranged. The spacer segment comprises a radial extension (E) that is larger than thickness of a wall of the shaft. The spacer element is brought from a non-swiveled-out position into a pivoted-out position by the expanding element. The spacer segment is pivoted about a pivot axis and not parallel to the longitudinal axis, and comprises a recess.
