PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for detecting an existence area.SOLUTION: An area detection unit 100 includes: a signal intensity acquisition section 101 for acquiring a RSSI observed concerning a radio signal transmitted from a transmitter; a specific place signal intensity storage section 120 for storing a RSSI at a place where transition can occur between adjacent areas; a determination section 102 for determining whether transition between adjacent areas has been detected or not based on relation between the change of an observed RSSI and a RSSI at a place where transition can occur between the adjacent areas; an existence information storage section 130 for storing an existence probability in each area; and an updating section 103 for performing updating to reduce an existence probability in an area before transition in response to an existence probability in an area before transition and to increase an existence probability in an area after transition in response to an existence probability in an area before transition when it is determined that transition between adjacent areas is detected.
