A mechanical seal includes a rotation ring provided with a vertical surface which is vertical to a central axis line of the rotation ring. A tapered surface includes a diameter on an outer circumferential side which decreases away from the vertical surface. A plurality of split bodies are positioned by sandwiching an outer circumferential side of the rotation ring between a support member that supports a side of the vertical surface and a presser member that presses the tapered surface. An elastic member is disposed between the support member and the vertical surface, so that the vertical surface is supported through the elastic member. A tapered surface is pressed in direct surface contact with an inner circumferential tapered surface of the presser member. |
