The method involves arranging a web (6) at a tear line (2) to be produced between a punching cutter (16) and a counter-cut body of a punching tool (14). The cutter is subsequently moved on the body at a line section (12) of the tear line only upto a defined cutter distance i.e. minimum distance, so that the cutter acts on the web for producing the tear line, and the web is scratched only on the line section. A defined material thickness is maintained at the line section for weakening the web only at the line section. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for producing web sections from a web including a fabric (2) a device for producing a tear line in a web including a fabric.
