The present invention provides a method for preparing coal pitch having a softening point of 60 to 130°C comprising the steps of: producing coal slurry by mixing dried coal, a solvent, a catalyst, and a catalytic supplement; producing a reactant by making the produced coal slurry react with hydrogen; recovering the solvent from the produced reactant; adding a separation solvent to the reactant having the solvent recovered and removing foreign materials; and recovering the separation solvent by distilling the reactant having the foreign materials removed.
