1276120 Hydrochloric acid PROGIL 24 Nov 1969 [27 Nov 1968] 57469/69 Heading C1A [Also in Division C2] In a process for separating hydrogen chloride and phenol from a solution thereof in water the hydrogen chloride and phenol are distilled from the solution in the presence of calcium or magnesium chloride and the distillate is cooled so as to separate hydrogen chloride in the gaseous phase and the phenol in the liquid phase. The solution of phenol and hydrogen chloride employed may be that obtained in the manufacture of diphenylpropane by condensing phenol and acetone in the presence of hydrogen chloride. Apparatus for carrying out the process is described. Examples are furnished.
