Padlock with combination and key locking mechanisms

A padlock 10 includes a housing and a shackle 16 movable between an open position and a closed position and is retained in its closed position by a latch 39 that can be unlocked by a key locking mechanism and a combination locking mechanism. The key locking mechanism includes a cylinder 31 with a cam 117 for engagement with the latch 39 via engaging surface 94. The combination locking mechanism may include a button 60 having a locking notch (187 Fig. 6) that engages a locking structure 149 on the spindle to hold it in a locked position. When the combination lock is in an unlocked position pushing the button 60 forces sloping surface 133 against the latch moving it away from the toe end of the shackle. The latch may be biased 137 in the locked position. In the unlocked configuration of the combination locking mechanism, the combination used for the combination locking mechanism may be reset and/or reconfigured.
