[Class 69 (iii)] To prevent the needle valve stern 2 of a spray gun 1 from being worn by grit contained in the liquid being sprayed, the liquid entering at 3 is prevented from entering the gland 6 in which the valve stem slides, by a flexible seal 5, e.g. of synthetic rubber located on the liquid side of the gland. The flange 7 of the seal is tapered so that the liquid pressure forces it tightly against the valve stern. The seal is also held in by a flange at its other end, received in a widening bore of the gland. |
