A process for the recovery of carbon disulphide contained in the windings of freshly spun viscose rayon, for example, on bobbins or cakes comprises four stages: (1) a preliminary washing in cold water at 15-20 DEG C. until all acid is washed out of the cakes and the washing water is practically neutral (pH 5 or 6); (2) heating in a closed vessel with carbonated water (to remove final traces of acid) to a temperature above the boiling point of carbon disulphide (say 55-65 DEG C.); (3) evacuation of the vapours and condensation thereof, followed by decantation and eventual re-use of the recovered carbon disulphide, and (4) injection of water into the columns of cakes to drive away any gases remaining in the interior. Each of the first three stages may take 30-45 minutes, depending on the nature of the thread, tension of winding and the like.
|
