PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the output of a focus detection image signal regardless of the brightness of a subject. SOLUTION: In an AF module in which a plurality of line sensors and monitor sensors are arranged, each monitor sensor is formed of a plurality of minute sensors, and a monitor signal from each minute sensor and a threshold VMS are compared with each other in an AGC detecting part. When a level detecting time Ts elapses from the start of charge accumulation, the output level of the monitor signal at the time point is compared with each of thresholds VMS to VMS/32 in order. Then, a threshold corresponding to the output level is reset, and a reset threshold voltage and the monitor signal are compared with each other in the AGC detecting part. When the monitor signal exceeds the threshold, the AGC detecting part outputs an inversion signal for terminating the charge accumulation to terminate the charge accumulation in the corresponding line sensor.
