The method comprises connecting hollow-cylindrical and/or hollow frustoconical tower segments (2) to each other, and connecting the segments to a bottom of a tower (7) by an automatic submerged arc welding process in a construction site and connecting other segments to a top of the tower by welding connections. The tower segments are screwed to each other using a flange. The welding process is performed at 360[deg] relative to an inner and/or outer wall using a welding tool. The segment at the bottom of the tower is not connected with a base (10) in the construction site. An independent claim is included for a steel tower.
